Pantone Colour of the Year 2020 {How to use it for Interiors}

For 2020 Pantone have selected ‘Classic Blue’ as the colour of the year. The name says it all, it’s a classic. Nothing we haven’t seen before but maybe a little forgotten. In the announcement Pantone explained the choice saying it ‘…highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.’ The world is in quite a turbulent time, especially the UK so I feel the choice is quite grounding and almost presses the reset button.

From my poll on Instagram, 60% are loving the colour while 40% are finding it a little boring. With one comment saying it reminded them of ‘boring business professional blue vibes.’ So I thought I would pull together some visual inspiration of how the colour could be used in interiors, in a more contemporary way.

ROOM DESIGN

For this design, I focused on creating a calming space which takes inspiration from the desert at dusk. Using classic blue as the sofa to tie in a dusk sky, but bringing sandy colours into the walls, print and textiles. To ground the colour palette, I’ve added in black element but have mainly used it on straight edges to add structure.
